Mobile, AL – After reaching the second round of the national tournament for the third time in the last four years, the #16 UC men's tennis team battled hard but came up short falling to #2 Keiser 4-0 at NAIA National Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Patriots close out the season with a 20-4 record, which is the most wins by the team at least in the past decade.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early start with wins at #2 and #3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. UC's top doubles team of
Tomomi Nagao and
Mikaela Fros were trailing 5-3 when play was halted as the duo finish the season with a 15-6 record.
Laura Marie and
Tessa Gray closed out their season with an impressive 20-2 mark.
In singles play Keiser notched straight sets wins at #4, #5, and #2 singles to close out the match 4-0. Marie took the first set from Leading Alisha Hussian 7-5 at #3 singles when play was halted. The MSC Freshman of the Year closed out the season with a 21-2 mark at #3 singles this season.
Nagao, the MSC Player of the Year, closes out the season with a 18-2 mark after her match was halted in the second set. Overall each of the Patriots singles players closed out the year with a winning record and five of the six tallied over 15 wins on the season.
For the Patriots the close out the season with six all-conference players, the MSC regular season champions, and one of their highest rankings in program history.
