Williamsburg, KY – Three-time NAIA All-American
Carson Johnson has qualified for racewalk at the 2021 US Olympic Track & Field Trials taking place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Johnson becomes the first Patriot to qualify for the Olympic trials in the racewalk.
"I am beyond proud and excited for Carson for the year that he has had. To be a two time All-American and an Olympic Trials qualifier all in the same year is an unbelievable accomplish," said Head Coach
Randy Greer. "For him to achieve this as just a sophomore in the middle of a pandemic is a testament to his work ethic and dedication. I am really excited to see how he does. "
Johnson will be among the 16 athlete field that will compete in the 20km Race Walk on Saturday June 26, at 12 p.m. The sophomore qualified last month when he crossed the line in 1:40.03 at an event in Whiting, NJ on May 16
th.
The Bowling Green, KY native is seeded 12
th in the field has the eighth fastest racewalk time in the country this season.
Johnson is coming off a strong season, where he earned NAIA All-American honors during both the indoor and outdoor season. Johnson placed third at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as he clocked a time of 23:57.15 in the 5k racewalk. For the second consecutive season Johnson tallied All-American honors in the indoor 3k racewalk after a fifth place finish.
The sophomore is also the MSC outdoor champion in the 5k racewalk as he posted a season best time of 21:47.53.
