Williamsburg, KY - Competing in their first competition of the 2022 season, the University of the Cumberlands cheer team tallied the highest score in program history. The Patriots notched a third place and a second place finish across two rounds at the Patriot Spirit Invite on Friday night. UC hosted Concordia University, Georgetown College, and Indiana Wesleyan for the competition in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.
The Patriots were the first team to hit the mat of the night. UC tallied a first round score of 82.73 after receiving a 1.0 point deduction. The scored gave UC a third place finish during round one, just four points behind first place Indiana Wesleyan.
UC regrouped for round two and was able to improve from their first round score by four points. The Patriots tallied a second round score of 86.40, which was just two points behind conference opponent Georgetown.
"It was a great way to open the season recording the highest score in program history," said Head Coach
RJ Conroy. "We look forward to building on this as we head into conference."
The second round score of 86.40 is the highest season-opening competition score since Cumberlands cheer started competing as a championship sport in 2018.
The Patriots return to the mats next Friday, January 28, when they are set to travel to Georgetown College for their second competition of the season.
