Fort Wayne, IN – The Patriots opened up Mid-South Conference action against 11^th ranked Indiana Tech, which also marks their first stand alone dual of the season.  The Warriors defeated the Patriots by a score of 34-12, where they won seven of the ten matches.

The three wins for UC all came by tech fall wins, where they blanked their opponents. Alexis Medina, Chamira Cooper, and Jesse Kirby all tallied the shutout victories. For Cooper this keeps her undefeated in duals, pushing her record to 12-0.

When Medina stepped to the mat for the 116-matchup, UC was already in a 10-0 deficit, from two forfeits. #10 ranked Medina had a tough task in facing 19^th ranked Alyssa Schuller. The match only lasted 2:53, the shortest match for a UC win of the night. She was able to use an outside single and headlock snap to secure a takedown and earn the 10-0 win. The win put the Patriots within striking distance of the Warriors with a team score of 10-4.

However Indiana Tech rattled off five straight wins, four by fall to go up, 34-4. This put 10^th ranked Cooper up in the 170-bout, looking to gain some momentum for the Patriots. Cooper wasted no time tallying up the points, jumping out to an early lead. Throughout the match, she utilized her signature double to earn two-point takedowns again and again. She also hit a snap and landed a final four-point takedown to win 12-0. This made the team score 34-8 going into the final match.

Kirby proved to be the reliable anchor for UC once again, solidifying her #1 ranking in the NAIA at 191. The match was all Kirby who landed repeatedly landed snaps to snatch singles. She did not allow her opponent to score, winning in a 10-0 tech fall. The final two matches for Cumberlands brought the final team score to 34-12.

The loss gives the Patriots a dual season record of 6-6 and 0-1 in MSC play.

The team will return to the mats in the most anticipated matches of the season. UC will host both #1 Campbellsville and #2 Life at home on February 3 beginning at 6PM.
