Williamsburg, KY – After an All-American season in 2021 and an Olympic Trials debut, Carson Johnson has continued to dominate the competition this year. The sophomore's performance has him ranked sixth in the world in the men's 3000m Race-Walk event according to World Athletics.
 
Johnson is headed to New York City on Saturday to take on the best of the best at the 2022 Millrose Games, where he will race in the USATF 3k Race-Walk championships. These meets are put on by World Athletics and this is the second World Indoor Tour Gold meet of the year. Gold status represents the highest level of competition, with numerous Olympic medalists in attendance. This race on Saturday features the top race-walkers in the world, and Johnson is one of them.
 
Head Track & Field coach Randy Greer is excited for the weekend saying, "Carson is really having a tremendous year. From competing in the Olympic trials this summer to currently being ranked sixth in the world in the men's 3000m race-walk, Carson is really representing our school and team at the highest level. This weekend he will compete in New York City at the Millrose Games for the 2022 USATF 3000m Race-Walk Championships.  I know he is ready to race, and I really look forward to seeing what he can do this weekend and beyond."
 
Carson has competed in this event three times this season, and has posted impressive finishes in each race. He broke his own school record in his first competition of the year after finishing with a time of 13:25.57, over 20 seconds faster than his previous best. He has continued to finish faster in every race of the year, his best coming in Winston-Salem, NC where he paced a 13:15.97. This time earned him a top ranking in the world.
 
The Bowling Green, KY native has cemented himself on a very prestigious list in Cumberlands history. He is the first Patriot since Anthony Kabara in 2002 to be ranked top-six in the world, and the first Race-Walker ever to do so.
 
Johnson is set to take the starting line at 11:43 AM on Saturday in New York City, NY. The Millrose Games (New York) indoor meeting 2022 should be broadcasted live on the World Athletics Youtube-channel.
