Lexington, KY - UC found themselves up against the University of Northwestern Ohio in their final match of the NAIA National Indoor Invitational. Cumberlands could not quite get things done against the Racers as they fell 4-0 to move to 4-2 on the season.
Northwestern Ohio grabbed their first point of the match in doubles play as they made quick work of the Patriots. UNOH's #1 duo, Martin Stanchez and Malik Omarkhanov, were able to take care of Martin Barbier and Eric Banoub 6-1 with the Racer's #3 Nils Messin and Sergio Conde following suit with a 6-1 defeat of Hung-Ju Wu and Martin Muller.
Barbier at #1 singles was met with a tough task in ranked Sergio Conde with Conde finishing with the upper hand. Barbier battled, but was unable to win a set as he fell 6-4-, 6-3 to make it 2-0 for the Racers. UNOH extended their lead to 3-0 at #5 singles with Christian De La Fuente Nodado falling to Hugo Car. It was not without a fight, though as Nodado competed well in a 6-0, 7-6 (3) defeat. #6 singles is where Northwestern Ohio ended grabbing the win as Nils Messin took care of Hung-Ju Wu 6-2, 7-6 (1).
Mattis Le Montagner, Martin Muller, and Luis Montull each saw their matches go unfinished but it was not without each of them grabbing a win in the second set of eachof their matches.
The Patriots will take some time to regroup as their match is set for February 11th. UC will match up with Mount Vernon Nazarene University in that matchup as they search for win number five of the year.
