th-ranked UC won the final four matches to complete a comeback win over 16
th-ranked Campbellsville 21-19 Monday night in the UC Volleyball Gym. Trailing 19-6 midway through the match the Patriots recorded three decision and a fall to improve to 6-3 on the season 2-1 in conference action.
Trailing 19-6, UC sparked the comeback at the 174-match with 18
th-ranked
Jarod Swank getting a 7-0 decision win over Brice Parks. That swing the momentum the Patriots way, and got the crowd involved.
Next, came the 184-match featuring 18
th-ranked
Harold Gilmore and Jaden Sonner. Gilmore found himself trailing 6-0 at the end of the first period, then started the second period in the top position. He then notched a four-point nearfall, to cut the lead 4-6. In the third period, he would get two escapes and a takedown to get the 11-8 decision win. This gave the team three more points, cutting the deficit to 19-12.
The 197-match saw 11
th-ranked
Gabe Jacobs and 16
th-ranked David Richardson. Jacobs came into the match knowing that he needed to get a fall to give Cumberlands a chance. He got it done in the first period, getting an early takedown which put him in a position to get a fall in 2:36. That six point fall brought the Patriots within one point at 19-18.
With the comeback almost complete, sixth-ranked
Aaron Johnson took the mat to take on Gabe Craig. Johnson got the scoring started with an early takedown, then Craig would get an escape. In the second period Craig evened the score notching another escape. In the third period, Johnson started on the bottom, then notched an escape followed by a takedown to get a 5-2 lead. Craig would get an escape with 48 seconds left, but Johnson kept his distance not allowing anymore points to be scored. He would notch the 5-3 decision win, which gave the Patriots the 21-19 win.
Earlier in the dual seventh-ranked
Bryce Nickel faced off against Cole Fort at 141 lbs. Nickel notched two takedowns, which led to a fall in 2:50. That gave UC their first points of the night and cut the deficit to 9-6.
The dual also saw two extra matches. The first extra match saw
Jaxon Wells getting a 18-2 tech fall win over Cole Fort. Then the second match had
Harrison Brooks falling to Raymond Williams in a 3-2 decision.
The Patriots are back at home for a dual against sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Feb 4, at 6 pm. This will also be Cumberlands senior night, they will be celebrating seven seniors. Live Video of the dual
