Jackson, MI - The Patriots' men's bowling team is returned to action this weekend with its second consecutive top-five finish as UC finished fifth at the Crossroads League Tournament, Friday afternoon. The tournament consisted of both team and baker games and UC had two bowlers place in the top-10 individually, while Cumberlands totaled 6,985 pins to place fifth overall.
Charles Wilken led the team and was named to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 865 pins. The senior finished sixth out of 63 competitors and averaged 216.3 per game, including knocking down 239 pins in the first game. The junior bowling over a 200 in three of the four team games.
Bryce Frantz finished two spots back of Wilken in eighth place with 861 pins. Franz surpassed the 200 pins mark in all four games, averaging 215.3 pins per game, including closing out with his best round of the day when he totaled a 230.
Veterans Liam McNamara and Robert Borowski each posted a top-30 finsih as the finished 21st and 28th, respectively. McNamara totaled 761 pins, averaging 190.3, and hit 236 pins in game three, which was his tournament high. Borowski tallied 753 pins in four games. He started the day off strong by hitting 202 in the first game and successfully averaging 183.8 pins per game.
Steven Simmons successfully started his collegiate career by taking 33rd place, just 21 pins apart from 32nd place. With a game-high of 194, Simmons averaged 172.8 pins per game.
After combining the team and baker-style games, the Pats take home fifth place with 6,985 total pins. UC tallied 3,834 pins over the baker games, averaging 239.63 per game.
Spring Arbor won the first-place victory with a total pin count of 7,272. Midway took second place by knocking down 7,146 pins. Huntington tallied 7,097 to clinch third place. Marian found themselves just 62 pins in front of the Patriots, with 7,047 pins knocked down on the day for fourth place.
Cumberlands will be back in the morning to compete in the second Crossroads League Tournament.
