Charlotte, NC – UC put together a strong race at the Royals XC Challenge in Charlotte, NC on Friday. The Patriots placed 18
th out of the 28 teams competing on the day, and had five runners finish with career best times.
Sophomore
Kyle Woodward led the way for UC on Friday afternoon. The 2021 NAIA Qualifier paced a 26:27.7 for a 91
st place finish. He was followed by
Noah McClellan, who placed 98
th with a 26:34.3 finish.
James Overholser crossed the finish line just five seconds after his teammate McClellan, clocking a 26:39 for 105
th.
The duo of
Deshawn Crowe and AJ Barker were the final Patriot scorers on the day, both securing PR times as well. Crowe ran a 26:53.6 for 116
th while Barker paced a 28:16.7 for 180
th.
Dillan Melchiore clocked a 29:10.9 with
Clay Hogue pacing a 29:26.2 right behind him, earning 204
th and 210
th place. Junior
Zach Pennington and Freshman
Logan Akers crossed the finish just two places apart in 29:55.2 and 30:08.4.
Daniel Joseph ran his first collegiate 8k in 31:11 while Chris Greer earned a new personal best time of 34:36.2.
Brian Nwachukwu was the final Patriot finisher on the day with a 35:24.6.
Cumberlands scored 462 points from their top-five runners in Charlotte. Augusta earned the victory, scoring 74 points while NAIA number one Milligan finished second with 94. UNC-Greensboro placed third tallying 100 points. Concord and Florida Southern completed the top-five with 104 and 128 points respectively.
The Patriots will have two weeks until they head to Grand Rapids, MI for the Great Lakes Challenge.
