Eric Skelly has the team's 2022-2023 schedule set and ready to go. This year the Patriots will take part in 11 meets, including two home meets and a last chance meet as the schedule was release Friday afternoon.
The Patriots will open the season on the road as they travel to Banner Elk, NC to face NCAA DII Lees-McRae on October 15. This will the third time that these two schools have competed against each other and the first time in the Tar Heel state. The women's team will also swim against UNC Pembroke in a tri-meet.
UC divers will travel to compete in the Sewanee Invitational on October 28. This meet will provide Cumberlands with a chance to compete on both the one-meter and three-meter boards.
A day later will be the Patriots home opener when they host Union and MSC rival Midway in a tri-meet. Both teams have won at least six straight dual meets against the Bulldogs, while it's the third time that UC will face Midway.
November will see the Patriots take part in a pair of meets leading up to their mid-season meet in December. On November 5
th, the team heads to Terre Haute, IN for a Tri-Meet against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Bethel University (IN). It marks Cumberlands first dual meet against either program. After that, UC will head up the Portsmouth, OH to take on MSC foe Shawnee State on November 19. That will be the only chance Cumberlands will see a Mid-South team until the conference championship.
The Patriots will finish out the 2022 portion of the season with another new challenge as they compete in the College of Wooster Invite on December 1
st – 3
rd. This is serving as UC's mid-season meet and provide the swimmers and divers a chance to compete in both prelims and finals against top competition over the course of the three-day meet.
Cumberlands will host its final home meet on January 14 when they face Asbury. Prior to the meet, UC will honor its 2023 senior class.
A week later, UC takes part in their final tune-up ahead of postseason when they face Milligan at 1 p.m. on January 21. The Buffaloes finished fifth at the 2022 NAIA National Championships and will be a tough test for the Patriots ahead of conference.
The Mid-South Conference Swimming & Diving Championships will take place February 2-4 in Kingsport, TN. The women's team is seeking its 11
th straight conference title, while the men are looking to make it five straight. A week later, UC will host the MSC Last Chance Meet on February 11
th.
UC will close out the season with the NAIA National Championship March 1-4 in Columbus, GA. Both teams will be looking to improve on their top-five finish a year ago.
