Bowling Green, KY - In a rematch from last year's MSC Tournament semi-finals, Cumberlands men's tennis finished as the MSC Fall Invite's runner-up after falling to Cumberland 5-2 in the championship matchup Saturday afternoon. UC moves to 1-1 on the season.
In doubles play, Cumberland sweep all three doubles matches to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Phoenix extended their lead to 2-0 with a straight sets win at #2 singles. Lucas Augtor got the Patriots on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Vaughan at #6 singles cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Phoenix posted wins ast #5 and #4 singles to clinch the match with a 4-1 advantage.
At #1 singles Matin Muller dropped the first set to Pavel Kelo however rallied to take the second set 6-4 and force a tie-breaker. The two players traded points early but Kelo ultimate pulled away for 10-3 win giving Cumberland a 5-1 advantage.
Christian De La Fuente was also in a three-set battle at #3 singles. De La Fuente won the first set 6-2, before Noah Chowdhury forced a third-set. In the third set, De La Fuente pulled away for the 10-5 win to earn the point and make the final 5-2.
The Patriots will regroup and set their sights on the spring schedule, which will kickoff in February.
