Portsmouth, OH – Patriots men's swimming and diving team keeps the perfect season alive advancing to 7-0 after taking down Shawnee State 209-43. UC had first place finishes in every event with five national provisional standards.
Mikolaj Kala had the Pats first provisional cut with a pole position finish in the 100 breast. The junior touched the wall in 1:06.15. Kala followed that win with another win in the 200 breaststroke. This time he finished in 2:27.06 while
Andres Caicedo finished right behind him with a time of 2:30.43.
Next in the 100 butterfly, UC had two cuts starting with
Kacper Sobieszuk who finished first with a time of 58.24.
Leon Irmer was right behind him to come in second with a time of 58.47, for the cut in that event. Then in the 200 fly,
Gabriel Eriksson and Trey Wolfram both hit provisional cuts. Eriksson touched the wall first with a time of 2:13.49, while Wolfram was three tenths of a second behind finishing in 2:13.79.
Caicedo and Irmer also finished one and two in the 50 freestyle. Caicedo came in first finishing in 24.62 while Irmer finished in 24.65 only three hundredths of a second after. Then in the 100 free
Daniel Ruiz Ramis pulled away from the pack to come in first, with a time of 55.29, followed by
Mykhailo Ivaniuk who finished second. The 200 free had the Pats took all the podium places as
Evan Hawkins took first with a time of 2:04.07, followed by
Will Gilbert (2:05.24) and Ivaniuk (2:06.42). Gilbert then notched his first win of the day in the 400 freestyle. He touched the wall in 4:25.03, followed by Wolfram in 4:25.15. Sobieszuk also picked up another win in the 800 free as he finished in 9:03.81 to finish up the freestyle events.
In the backstroke events,
Creed Farthing started with a 100 back win touching the wall in 1:01.35. Ruithiik Satti then led the way in the 200 back finishing first in 2:17.00. Then in the 200 IM,
Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira came in first at 2:13.44 followed by
Peyton Berter in second at 2:15.56 and
Evan Hawkins in third with a time of 2:16.93.
UC finished the day with two wins in the relay races. In the 400 medley the team of Farthing,
Nathan Souza, Eriksson, and Irmer came in first. Then in the 200 free relay, the team of Caicedo, Ruiz Ramis, Satti, and Gonzalez de Oliveira finished first.
Cumberlands will take the rest of November off before hitting the road going to Wooster, OH for the College of Wooster Invite on December 1
st – December 3
rd.
