Patriots Sit in Top 10 After Day 1 of MSC Brandon Burns Memorial

Smyrna, TN - The Patriots women's bowling team is sitting in sixth place after six team games on the opening day of competition at the MSC Brandon Burns Memorial Tournament Saturday afternoon. This is a two-day, 16 team tournament, with 6 team games and 16 baker games. 
 
UC started off the day strong knocking 797 pins in the first game to claim their spot in the top-ten. The Patriots struck 1,740 pins over the next two games to rise two spots as they sat in eighth. Cumberlands found their groove in game four, as they hit 926 pins to move within 60 pins of a top-five, however, UC knocked down 1,809  pins over the final three games to hold steady in sixth place heading into day two.
 
Kiara Abanto, Paige Frantz, Haleigh Lawwell, Erika Taylor, Allysen Coryell, Kaitlyn Egan, Emma Layman, and Kaylie Sipes represented the Patriots in the lanes this weekend.
 
Frantz had a slow start this morning, only hitting 163 pins in the first game. The Louisville, KY native knocked 359 pins over the next two games to climb up the leaderboard. The freshman rallied in the final three games to flatten 568 pins to surge into the top-25 for the fourth time this season, placing 24th overall.
 
Haleigh Lawwell and Allysen Coryell find themselves in the top 35 hitting 1,057 and 1,055 pins, respectively. The Murfreesboro, TN native, Lawwell clipped at least 165 pins in five games to surge up the leaderboard on her home lane to sit in 32nd place. Coryell claimed her spot in the standings, late in the day, with a 209 in game four, which helped the senior finish one spot behind Lawwell.
 
UC will return to the lanes on Sunday, November 20 for the final day of Brandon Burns Memorial Tournament.  Teams will compete in 16 baker games.
