Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira had four performances that ranked in the top fives of the NAIA to earn his second straight MSC Swimmer of the Week honors, conference officials announced Monday.
Gonzalez de Oliveira closed out the weekend posting four wins, two in individual races and two in relay events and achieving a pair of NAIA provisional cuts. He opened the meet winning the 50 yard free, touching the wall in a time of 21.35.  That time clipped the provisional cut by over a half second and ranks him fourth in the NAIA this season.
The sophomore from Madrid, Spain followed that up by pulling away from the field and taking top honors in the 100 freestyle. Gonzalez de Oliveira clocked a season-best time of 46.39, which is over two seconds faster than the provisional standard and ranks him fourth in the NAIA. Â
UC opened the meet with Gonzalez de Oliveira anchoring the winning the 200-medley relay. The quartet of Patriots finished with a time of 1:34.55, which is the third fastest time in the NAIA. In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, Gonzalez de Oliveira led off with a 46.62 split to help Cumberlands clock a 3:10.90. That time won the event by three seconds and is also the third fastest time in the NAIA.
Cumberlands will have this weekend off before heading up to Shawnee State on November 19
th to take on the Bears at 1 pm.
