Bowling Green, KY- Patriots backstroker Maria Basto posted four wins and a pair of NAIA provisional cuts en route to garnering her first MSC Swimmer of the Week of the season.  The sophomore won two individual wins and two wins in relay races to earn the accolade, which was announced by conference officials on Monday.

Basto led the way for UC being one of only two Patriots two earn a pair of individual wins on the weekend.  The Bogota, Colombia native opened the meet by touching the wall in 58.75 for the 100 back. That time is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season and is almost four seconds faster than the provisional standard.  Basto followed that up by pulling away from the field in the 200 back.  The junior went 2:07.99 for her second win and provisional cut of the day. Basto's strong finish moves her up to second in the NAIA this season as the time was eights seconds faster than the provisional cut.

Basto led off UC's 200-medley relay that went 1:47.57 to earn the win by almost six seconds and hold the second fastest time in the NAIA.  The junior closed out the meet splitting a 53.71, which was the fastest split by any swimmer, to help the UC post a winning time of 3:39.07 in the 400 free relay. Cumberlands currently ranks third in the NAIA in that event.

Cumberlands will have this weekend off before heading up to Shawnee State on November 19^th to take on the Bears at 1 pm.
