Wooster, OH – The Patriots women's swimming and diving team notched five wins on final day of competition en route to finishing first at the College of Wooster Invite Saturday night. Valentina Zapata Ceballos set a new program record in the 100 IM, while Maria Basto earned another "A" Standard on her way to winning the 200 Back.  Cumberlands closed out the mid-season meet with 1911 points pulling away from the field to win by over 300 points.

Finals:

Zapata Ceballos started the final session by hitting a new school record in the 100 IM, with a time of 1:00.18.  That is the fastest time in the NAIA and broke the school record by over a half second.

In the 200 back, Basto led a Patriots podium sweep clocking a winning time of 2:03.09, for her second "A" standard of the meet. She is now the second fastest swimmer in the NAIA. Filling out the rest of the podium places was Romy Itzkovich Sacco (2:04.00) in second and Libby Poley (2:09.15) in third. Itzkovich Sacco's time was good enough to take fourth in the NAIA.

The 100 free saw Hanne te Velthuis take the win as she pulled away from the pack, touching the wall in 52.11 seconds. Her time puts her as the third fastest swimmer in the NAIA. In second was Anastasiia Shatalova with a time of 53.25, which ranks tenth in the NAIA.  Coming in eighth place was Olie Dabney (54.74), while Riley Cerqueira (55.28) came in 11^th place.  Magdalena Mayer (56.30) come in 15^th place, and Laurel Yates (58.69) came in 22^nd place.

Emma Lehmkuhl took her second win of the weekend, this time on the 3-meter board. She recorded 327.20 points to take the win.

The 200-breast had Isabella Cooksey tally a runner-up finish with a time of 2:28.39. Abby Richardson touchded the wall in 2:29.29 to place fifth followed by Ashley Schoenlein (2:29.73) in sixth, and Kayana Cook (2:37.55) in eighth.

In the 1650 freestyle swim, Aldara Gonzalez Riano led all of the UC swimmers by coming in sixth with a time of 18:40.73. Elise Weiler was behind her with a time of 18:45.23 for eighth place. Both swimmers hit the NAIA provisional standards. Jami Margolen went 19:31.37 to place 15^th, followed by Keyleigh Hagan (19:41.39) in 19^th, and Elle Hays (20:32.77) in 26^th.

In the 200 fly, Filippa Malmstrom touched the wall in 2:08.83 for third place. With that time, she is the sixth fastest swimmer in the NAIA. Judit Garreta Yuste with a time of 2:16.15 to get fourth place.  

The team of Basto, Zapata Ceballos, Shatalova, and te Velthuis finished first in the 400 free relay with the time of 3:31.29, which is the second fastest time in the NAIA so far this season.

Prelims:

The day started with Zapata Ceballos going 1:01.37 in the 100 IM to make the "A" finals. Then in the 200 back prelims, Basto (2:05.05), Itzkovich Sacco (2:08.27), and Poley (2:11.22) all hit provisional cut of their way to being placed in the "A" final.

The 100 free prelims had te Velthuis (53.36), Shatalova (53.60), and Dabney (54.94) notch provisional cuts and earn spots in the "A" final. Cerqueira had a time of 56.3, while Mayer went 57.11 to make the "B" final, and Yates (59.42) made the "C" final. In the 200 breast prelims, all three swimmers that made the "A" final hit provisional cuts. Starting with Richardson who went 2:30.07, then Schoenlein who touched the wall in 2:30.62, followed by Cooksey in 2:32.62. Cook earned a spot in the "B" final with a time of 2:40.24.

Both UC swimmers, Malmstrom (2:11.11) and Garreta Yuste (2:14.27) hit provisional cuts and made the "A" finals for the 200 fly.

Cumberlands ended their 2022 portion of the season with an 8-0 record. They return to the pool on January 14^th as they take on Asbury.
