Marietta, GA – The #7 UC women's wrestling team opened up Mid-South Conference dual season, taking on #3 Life University. The Running Eagles edged out the Patriots taking the dual, 33-13.
UC had three winners in the dual in
Elizabeth Dosado,
Aliyah Yates and
Jesse Kirby.
Dosado got the Pats going in the opening 101-weight class match. She got out to an early 5-0 lead and then went 6-2 after the first period. Dosado started the second period off with a four-point takedown to lead 10-2. Her opponent fought back the rest of
the match, but Dosado proved to be too much winning via decision at 10-7 to give UC the 3-1 lead.
It was 21-3 in favor of the Running Eagles when Yates stepped on the mat for the 136-match. Yates quickly got a two-point takedown and turned her opponent on her back to get a pin just 22 seconds into the match to make the team score 21-8.
The final match of the dual was too far out of reach for UC to win with the team score at 33-9, but that did not deter Kirby. She got two early points on her opponent and never looked back, dominating the whole match. Kirby outmuscled her opponent time and time again getting over half of her points from pushouts. She led after the first period 6-0. Kirby got one more pushout and then a pair of two-point takedowns to finish off her opponent for the 11-0 tech fall victory. The team scored ended at 33-12 in favor of Life.
The Patriots will not compete again in the 2022 calendar year and will wait until January 6, 2023 when they travel to Louisville, KY for the two-day NAIA National Duals Tournament.
