Box Score Richmond, KY - UC's women's tennis program made it three straight wins on the season after their 7-0 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University Saturday at the EKU Tennis Courts. With the sweep the Patriots improve to 4-2 on the young campaign.
Doubles play was all Cumberlands as they swept their three matches to grab the first point of the contest. Tomomi and Nagao and Mikaela Fros got things kicked off with a convincing win at #1 doubles with UC's top tandem denying MVNU a point, winning 6-0 for their third win of the season. Tessa Gray and Meiri Okuwaki secured the win for UC at #2 doubles with their 6-1 defeat while #3 Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani finished things off with a 6-1 win of their own.
Singles play proved to belong to UC as well with every Patriot winning at least one set without giving up a point with three of the matches ending in flawless victories for Cumberlands. Nagao was just as impressive in the top spot in singles as she was doubles, winning at #1 in straight set 6-0, 6-0. Catherine Rae played as the #2 singles player for UC and was able to make it a 3-0 advantage for the Patriots in her match, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Meiri Okuwaki earned her first win as a Patriots as the #3 single player in her defeat of MVNU's Emily Allison. Okuwaki began the match in complete control with a 6-1 win and was able to finish strong with a 6-0 victory in set two to claim the win and make it a 4-0 lead for UC.
The back half of singles play was more of the same as Beckmann took care of things at #4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win while Fan Shiau followed suit with a flawless win of her own to grab her first win of her UC career as well. Hana Shimeno closed out the match just as strong as her teammates had begun as she defeated the Cougar's Emma Harville by a final tally of 6-0, 6-1 to finish off the 7-0 sweep.
The Patriots will look to make it four straight wins tomorrow, February 13th, against the Midway University to finish out their weekend with UC is set take on the Eagles at 1:30 p.m.
