Richmond, KY – The Cumberlands women's tennis team closed out their weekend with a 7-0 sweep of Midway Sunday afternoon at the EKU Tennis Courts. With the win UC improves to 5-2 on the year and extend their win streak to four straight. 

The Patriots began their match with Midway strongly, taking the doubles point handedly. Tomomi Nagao and Mikaela Fros got things started with a victory at #1 over the Eagles' Carly Poste and Paulina Moreno by a final of 6-1. That one point would be all Cumberlands would be willing to yield in doubles play as Meiri Okuwaki and Tessa Gray won their match at the #2 spot 6-0 with Johanna Beckmann and Satsuki Mitani rounding things out with a repeat over Grace Froedge and Jasmine McClenahan as Cumberlands grabbed a 1-0 advantage. 

Singles play proved to be another dominant effort from UC with three Patriots winning their matches in flawless fashion. Nagao grabbed the first win in singles at #1 over Carly Poste to make it a 2-0 lead for the Patriots, winning 6-2, 6-1. Meiri Okuwaki grabbed the first sweep of the match with her 6-0, 6-0 win at #2 singles and was followed by Catherine Rae at #3 with a win to move the score to 4-0 in favor of the Patriots and clinched the match. 

Beckmann ended up winning her first set as the #4 6-0 before taking care of Isabella McKinney with a 6-1 victory, making it a 5-0 lead. After that, UC ended the day as well as they could have hoped with them not giving up a single point in their final two matches. Fan Shiau garnered the second flawless win at #5 singles over Angelina Herrara while Hana Shimeno followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own to wrap up the day at #6. 

With this victory, the Patriots have now won four straight matches in a row. They'll look to extend that streak even further starting on Friday, February 18th when they travel to Lawrenceville, GA to play in the Grizzly Open at Georgia Gwinnett.
