Bowling Green, KY - For the first time in 2022, Johanna Beckmann earned the MSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by conference officials Monday. Beckmann comes off a strong week of play in Richmond, where she scored four points in UC's two matches to earn the award for the first time in her career.
Beckmann began her weekend with a pair of wins over Mount Vernon Nazarene University with both coming in convincing fashion. She teamed up with Satsuki Mitani at #3 doubles for a 6-1 win over MVNU's Emma Harville and Hannah Fugate to help Cumberlands clinch the doubles point and the 1-0 lead. Beckmann carried that momentum into her singles play as she recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kiersten Winey at #4 singles.
The Rhede, Germany native added a pair of wins in Cumberlands 7-0 victory over Midway. Playing alongside Mitani at #3 doubles, the tandem posted a 6-0 win over Grace Froedge and Jasmin McClenahan to help UC sweep doubles. The sophomore then claimed her fourth win in two days against Isabella McKinney at #4 singles 6-0, 6-1.
"Johanna has been getting better and better for us. She's continued to show growth and she deserves to win this award" - head coach Chin Tan
Johanna has gotten off to a strong start to the young season as she is now 3-2 in singles play and has a 5-1 record alongside Satsuki Mitani at #3 doubles.
Beckmann and the Patriots will look to use the momentum from their pair of weekend wins to help them extend their four-match winning streak this upcoming weekend as they're set to travel to Georgia Gwinnett for the Grizzly Open beginning on Friday, February 18th.
