Williamsburg, KY – After a strong stretch to start 2022, UC finds themselves with two players ranked in the ITA top-50 in singles while a duo makes the cut in doubles. Tomomi Nagao once again finds herself on the list at 14 while Meiri Okuwaki makes her debut at 50. Nagao once again saw her name on the list alongside Mikaela Fros as the14th-ranked doubles team.
Nagao enters her final season as one of the more decorated players in UC's women's tennis program with three All-America and MSC All-Conference nods while being the reigning MSC Player of the Year. Tomomi has played some of her best tennis this season with her sporting a 14-0 mark in singles play while going up against stiff competition with three of her matches being against others who find themselves on the list, winning all three matches.
Meiri's inclusion on the list marks the first time in her career she has been named to the list. Okuwaki is in her first season at UC and has quickly made a strong impression. The native of Saitama, Japan has played to a record of 18-5 overall with her playing some of her best tennis of late in singles play, winning eight of her last 10 contests.
Nagao and Fros have been named as a top-25 duo by the ITA for a fourth straight time with them checking in at 17 this time around. UC's dynamic duo has primarily played as the team's top tandem with all but one of their 15 matches being played at #1. To this point in the season Tomomi and Mikaela have played their way to a respectable record of 9-6 with them having to face tough competition as three of their matches been against duos ranked in the top-10 per the ITA.
The Patriots will see Austin Peay next at home on Thursday, March 24th, before hosting MSC foes Freed-Hardeman and Bethel on Friday and Saturday with each match set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
