Johnson Hits "A" Standard While Patriots Finish Final Day of 49ers Classic

Charlotte, NC – The Pats rounded out their weekend with their first individual win and national qualifying performance of the outdoor season. This came in Columbia, SC where UC took their racewalk squad to compete at the CIU Rams Invitational.
 
Carson Johnson continued his dominant year, placing first in his first 5k walk of the year. Johnson crossed the finish line in 22:40.17, over six minutes faster than the second-place finisher, and hit the national "A" standard by over a minute. Nicolas Cecioni earned a podium finish on Saturday, walking his 5k in 29:52.61 for third. Dailon Gambriel-Harris was the final Patriot featured in this race, walking to a 44:36.95 in the first 5000m walk of his career.
 
Cumberlands posted two other top-five finishes back in Charlotte. The first was in the discus throw. Jaylen Clements threw a new personal best distance of 41.61m for a fifth-place finish. Teammate Lucas Lambo also hit a new PR, as he finished two spots behind Clements with a 40.39 throw. James Crawford was the final Patriot thrower in this event, throwing the disc 35.93m for 17th.
 
Crawford and Lambo also competed in the shot put along with Carter Hemingway. Crawford's best throw of 12.71m earned 14th while Lambo's 12.04m throw placed him in 19th. Hemingway reached a distance of 11.25m for 26th.
 
The final top-five finish of the day came from UC's 4x400 "A" squad. Demarquez Brown took off at the sound of the gun to run the first lap for the Pats. He was followed by Ken Cobb and DeShawn Crowe. Crowe passed the baton to Miguel Reis to finish the last lap earning a fifth-place finish.
 
Cumberlands had two other squads in the 4x400 relay as well. Alex Miller and Evan McCrickard ran the first two laps for the "C" squad while Elyon Bando and Jakob Woods finished things off for a ninth-place finish and a time of 3:33.52. The "B" squad composed of Justin Fabela, Ryan Long, Tyrell Floyd, and Leonardo Daley finished 11th in 3:36.33.
 
DeShawn Crowe also raced in the 800m run earlier in the day, where he finished 20th with a two-lap time of 1:57.43. Ke'Shawn Stafford and Jeremy Wolf also took to the starting line in this event, finishing in 2:07.31 and 2:15.40.
 
Ryan Long led UC in the 200m dash with a personal best time of 22.43, placing 17th. Matthew Chavers placed three spots behind Long in 20th after a 22.62 finishing time. DeMarquez Brown ran a 23.27 while Brandon Green sprinted his 200m in 23.65.
 
The pole vault was the Pats final event of the weekend. Tristan Petrey cleared a height of 4.50m for an eighth-place finish in the section A event. Cole MacMurray and Chaz Jarboe both reached a height of 3.50m in the section B event, for eighth and 10th place finishes.
 
Cumberlands will return to the track next weekend as they travel to Atlanta, GA for the Emory Spring Break Classic. Events are set to begin the morning of Friday, March 25th.
