Columbus, GA – The second ranked Patriots women's swimming & diving team recorded a pair of national runner-up finishes as part of four All-American performances on day three of the 2022 NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships. Cumberlands has recorded 249 points to be in fourth place of the team standings heading into the final day.
UC opened the session with
Maria Basto,
Kayana Cook,
Hanne te Velthuis, and
Rebecca Loftus teaming up in the 200 medley relay. The swimmers touched the wall in 1:46.58 to edge out Olivet Nazarene for second place by 0.19 seconds and earned runner-up honors.
Basto followed up her leadoff leg with an individual runner-up. The Bogota, Colombia native broke the school record as she went 56.00 in the 100 back to capture her highest individual finish of her collegiate career.
Te Velthuis returned to the podium later in the night as well as she earned a third place finish in the women's 200 free. Te Velthuis posted the fastest closing split in the event of 28.70 to touch the wall in 1:53.58. That time is the second fastest time in program history.
In the three-meter diving,
Emma Lehmkuhl recorded a third-place finish with a score of 201.05. It marks her second All-American honors of the championships.
UC had five swimmers compete in the consolation finals led by
Ali Pecore 12
th place finish in the 200 free as she went 1:56.22. Libby Poley and
Anastasiia Shatalova went 59.94 and 1:00.19 in the 100 back, while
Kayana Cook clocked a 1:10.45 in the 100 breast.
Isabella Cooksey dropped two seconds off her prelim time to finish the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.83.
Cumberlands will look to cap off the championships strong with the final day of competition Saturday. Prelims are set to begin at 9 a.m. with finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
