Patriots Women’s Swimming Finishes Fourth At NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships

Columbus, GA – Cumberlands women's swimming & diving team capped off their season with a fourth place finish with 324 points at the 2022 NAIA National Championships Saturday night at the Columbus Aquatic Center.  The Patriots recorded four NAIA All-American performances to close out the championships.

UC closed out the meet with Anastasiia Shatalova, Ali Pecore, Hanne te Velthuis, and Maria Basto teaming up to breaking the school record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:29.42.  The Patriots closed out the relay with te Velthuis and Basto splitting a 51.71 and a 51.45 to break the record set back in 2019.

Maria Basto garnered her third individual NAIA All-American accolade of the meet after placing third in the 200 back.  She clocked a time of 2:02.25, which is the second fastest time of her career.  Liberty Poley touched the wall in 2:09.24 to finish 14th overall in the event.

The Patriots added a pair of NAIA All-Americans in the 100 free. Hanne te Velthuis touched the wall in 52.53 to place seventh in the event while Anastasiia Shatalova finished eighth with a time of 52.80.  It was te Velthuis second All-American accolade of the week and Shatalova first individual All-American accolade of her career.

In the 200 breast, Isabella Cooksey improved off her prelims time and went 2:27.45 to place 14th overall in the event. 

This marks the fourth consecutive championship that the Patriots finished in the top-five of the overall team standings.
