Anderson, SC – Cumberlands had a successful showing in the Electric City Invitational at Anderson University on Saturday. The Patriots saw a national qualifying standard in the pole vault alongside multiple personal best performances throughout the day as well.
 
Tristan Petrey hit a "B" standard in the pole vault event to qualify for nationals for the second straight outdoor season. The sophomore vaulted a height of 4.71m for a first-place finish. Four other Patriots entered the pole vault competition as well. Cole MacMurray and Kade Slusser tied for 12^th with a 3.50m vault while Jakob Woods and Chandler Powell cleared the bar at 3.20m and 2.60m.
 
Both Cumberlands relays posted season best performances on Saturday. The 4x400 squad finished in 3:19.82 for second out of 14 teams. The relay team consisted of DeMarquez Brown, Miguel Reis, Justin Fabela, and DeShawn Crowe. The 4x100 relay team of Tyrell Floyd, Leonardo Daley, Ryan Long, and Ken Cobb combined for a 42.33 lap around the track, placing fifth.
 
Eight Patriots entered the blocks for the 100m dash in Anderson. Ken Cobb led all UC's finishers with an eighth-place finish and a time of 10.77. Ryan Long and Elyon Bando were next with personal best times of 10.93 and 11.04, placing 15^th and 17^th. Tyrell Floyd finished 19^th with an 11.07 time while Matthew Chavers and Elohim Bando posted PR finishes of 11.26 and 11.29. Evan McCrickard and Andrew Josephs rounded out the Patriots in this event as they sprinted to 11.38 and 11.54 finishes.
 
Cobb, McCrickard and Jeremy Slaughter raced in the 200m dash as well. Cobb notched his third top-ten finish on the day with a 22.08 time for ninth. McCrickard finished 22^nd with a time of 23.05 in his first 200m collegiate race. Slaughter placed two spots behind his teammate with a new personal best time of 23.09.
 
Miguel Reis was the first of five UC runners in the 400 today. Reis paced a 49.82 lap around the track for seventh. Justin Fabela placed 12^th and hit his second straight PR in this race with a 50.91 finish. DeMarquez Brown and Jeremy Slaughter also posted career best times in this race with times of 51.00 and 53.03 for 13^th and 23^rd. Garret Hadaway was the final Cumberland competitor in the 400, pacing a 55.52 time in his first ever 400m collegiate race.
 
Leonardo Daley placed seventh in the 110 hurdles with a 16.17 finish. Jakob Woods finished just behind him with a PR of 17.16 for 12^th. Woods also raced in the 400 hurdles alongside Andy Tchyombo. Andy raced in this event for the first time in his career and finished seventh overall with a time of 57.79. Woods placed 17^th after running a 1:03.54.
 
DeShawn Crowe was the front runner for the Pats in the 800m run. Crowe paced his two laps in a personal best time of 1:56.54 for ninth place. Jeremy Wolf also hit a PR, finishing in 2:12.61 while Garret Hadaway finished just behind him with a time of 2:14.12. Dailon Gambriel-Harris was the final UC finisher, racing to a 2:16.33 finish. Wolf also PR'd in the 1500m run, posting a 4:36.03.
 
Kyle Woodward and Kevin Mengich put together a couple of solid performances in the 5k, both placing top-seven. Woodward finished fifth with a 15:52.99 while Mengich ran a personal best 15:57.84 for seventh. Zach Pennington was the final distance runner of the day, competing in the 3k steeplechase for the first time at UC. He hurdled his way to a 15^th place finish with a time of 11:53.34.
 
Kade Slusser led the way in the javelin throw event with a throw of 36.18m for 14^th. Jhawan Horton launched his javelin 34.71m for 18^th while Andy Tchyombo and Elyon Bando reached distances of 20.02m and 17.88 in their first appearance in this event.
 
There were four Patriots in the shotput event. James Crawford led the way with a 12.37m throw for 15^th place. Carter Hemingway was the next UC finisher with a throw of 11.84m while Jhawan Horton posted a 11.74m throw, these were good for 18^th and 19^th place finishes. Chandler Powell rounded out UC's throwers with a throw of 7.39m.

Horton and Hemingway also entered the hammer throw later in the day where they finished in sixth and 17th respictively. Horton hit a 44.93m throw while Hemingway posted a new career best throw of 36.59m. The discus was the last throwing event of the day and Jaylen Clements led the way with a 40.88m throw for eighth place. Crawford finished next in 15th with a 36.19m, while Cole MacMurray and Chandler Powell rounded out UC's competitions. MacMurray posted a PR throw of 19.36m while Powell reached 18.97m.
 
Matthew Chavers was the lone Patriot in the long jump on Saturday. His jump of 6.50m was good for sixth place out of 19 jumpers.
 
The Patriots will have the next weekend off before competing for a Mid-South Conference title on May 1^st and 2^nd. The MSC championships will be held in Williamsburg, KY at UC's home track.
