Cleveland, TN – The Patriots competed in their final meet before the NAIA National Tournament in two weeks. They headed south to Cleveland, Tennessee for Lee University's Last Chance Meet. UC's throwers had a good day, posting multiple top-10 performances.
Jhawan Horton was the only Patriot in the hammer throw on Saturday. He posted a ninth-place finish with a throw of 46.10m on his third attempt of the day.
James Crawford competed in the shot put event where he also placed ninth. Crawford had a career day with a throw of 13.53m on his first attempt.
Jaylen Clements was the top Patriot in the discus event. He hit a 41.27m mark for tenth place overall. Horton was just behind him in 11
th after a 37.94m throw while Crawford placed 14
th after a mark of 35.63m.
The 4x400 relay squad was just one second off of a national standard after running their four laps in 3:18.58.
Miguel Reis ran the first lap for the Pats before
Ken Cobb took over for the second. DeShawn Crowe handled the third leg, passing the baton to
Justin Fabela who completed the race.
Ken Cobb ran his fastest 100m dash of the season in the prelims on Saturday. The senior sprinted to a 10.68 finish to qualify for the semi-finals. He placed 14
th in the semis with a 10.75 time.
Leonardo Daley also raced in the 100m dash, where he ran an 11.23. This was Daley's first collegiate 100m race.
Four Patriots took off at the sound of the gun in the 200m dash.
Miguel Reis posted a 21.92 time, good for 20
th place.
Ryan Long was the next Cumberland finisher with a time of 22.30 for 32
nd.
Tyrell Floyd posted a new personal best performance, finishing in 22.77 while
Justin Fabela sprinted his way across the finish in 23.81.
Deshawn Crowe added his name to the list of Patriots that hit personal bests in Cleveland. Crowe paced a 1:55.03 in the 800m run. His two-lap time earned him 41
st out of 63 racers.
Cumberlands will travel to Gulf Shores, AL for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships on May 25
th through the 27
th.
