Patriots Hit Multiple NAIA Standards on Final Day of MSC Meet

Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots finished fourth at the Mid-South Conference Championships Monday afternoon. A pair of first-place finishes, multiple national standards, and numerous personal bests highlighted the final day of the MSC meet.
 
Cumberlands came out of the gate hot, winning the first two events of the day. Carson Johnson took home his second straight MSC title in the 5k racewalk with a national standard time of 22:23.62. Nicolas Cecioni hit a "B" standard of 25:25.38 for third place and a new PR. Dailon Gambriel-Harris also had a career best performance, walking a time of 36:02.21, over eight minutes better than his previous best.
 
The next race was the 4x100 relay where UC also took home the gold. Tyrell Floyd fired off of the starting blocks before passing the baton to Leonardo Daley. Ryan Long then took over for the third leg before Ken Cobb brought home the win in the final 100m. The Patriots hit an "A" standard time of 41.25 to secure their title and a spot at NAIA Nationals.
 
Ken Cobb got his second medal of the day in the 100m dash. The senior sprinted to the finish in 10.91 for second place.  He wasn't finished yet as he helped the 4x400 squad place third in the final race of the day. DeMarquez Brown took off at the sound of the gun before Cobb took over for the second lap. Miguel Reis handled the third leg for the Pats and Justin Fabela secured the podium finish on the last lap. The team hit their first national cut of the year with a time of 3:17.12, booking their ticket to nationals as well.
 
Reis was the other Patriot to win multiple medals on the day as he placed third in the 200m sprint. The senior clocked a 21.54 for a new personal best and second straight "B" standard. Ryan Long also scored for UC in this event, placing sixth with a time of 21.96. Reis scored in the 400 as well, where he clocked a personal best time of 48.27 for fifth place, and another national standard.
 
The final podium finish on Monday came from Chaz Jarboe in the decathlon. He scored a new personal record total of 4177 points after multiple PR's through his ten events. Chandler Powell also hit a new record high with 3848 points. Powell won the long jump, high jump, and javelin to solidify his fourth place performance. Cole MacMurray rounded out the Pats in the decathlon with 3495 points. The freshman won the pole vault, and placed fifth overall.
 
DeShawn Crowe was the lone Patriot in the 800m run on Monday. Crowe paced a new PR time of 1:56.54 to finish fifth out of 20 runners.
 
Andy Tchyombo raced in the 110m hurdle finals on Monday afternoon. The freshman earned sixth place, clocking a time of 15.59 across the finish line.
 
Cumberlands also scored in the shotput and discus events today. Jaylen Clements earned sixth with a 40.71 mark in his first attempt. Jhawan Horton also scored in this event with an eighth place finish, and a career best throw of 38.60m. James Crawford finished seventh in the shot put to score two points for UC. His best throw of the day came in the fourth attempt, where he hit a mark of 13.25m.
 
Carter Hemingway, Jhawan Horton, and Heath Rexroat finished ninth, 11th, and 14th in the shot put after marks of 12.40m, 12.06m, and 10.98m. James Crawford and Rexroat hit marks of 37.62 and 35.49 in the discus. Crawford placed 10th while Rexroat's PR throw earned him 12th.
 
Kyle Woodward and Kevin Mengich were the final Patriot competitors in the day, racing in the 5k. Woodward paced a 16:10.53 time for 11th while Mengich clocked a 16:21.07 for 13th. Mengich also raced in the 1500 where he hit a new PR time of 4:09.76 for 12th place.
 
Life earned the MSC title scoring 177 points throughout the two days. Lindsey Wilson placed second with 143 points while Cumberland University was just one point behind for third. UC finished fourth, tallying 128 points with Campbellsville rounded out the top five with 103 points respectively.
 
The Patriots will travel south to Cleveland, TN in two weeks for the Lee University Last Chance meet. This will be the last competition before NAIA Nationals on May 25th.
