Gulf Shores, AL – The Patriots competed in only one event on day one of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. UC put up their best effort in the 4x100m relay prelims but came up just short in their surge for a spot in the final race.

Cumberlands raced in the third heat of the day where they finished third with a season best time of 41.23, beating their MSC Championship time of 41.25. Tyrell Floyd ran the first leg before Leonardo Daley took over. Ryan Long got the baton from Daley with Ken Cobb finishing the final 100m.

To qualify for the final race on Friday, the Patriots had to win their heat, or have the next two fastest times. They placed 11th out of 38 teams on the day and missed out on a top 8th spot by just over two tenths of a second.

Coach Greer was proud of his team today saying "The guys came up a little short which is always tough, but I couldn't ask for more. They came in and ran a season best so what else can you do."

This marks the end of the season for Floyd, Long, and Cobb. Daley will race in the 110m hurdles later this week. Along with the hurdles UC will race in the racewalk, 400m dash and 4x400 tomorrow afternoon.
