Columbia, KY – The 17th-ranked Cumberlands men's wrestling team dropped tonight's MSC dual match against 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson 32-6. Both
Chasen Brown and
Dylan Preston finished the dual with decisions wins in their respective matches.
In the 141-bout, 20th-ranked Brown took down 16th-ranked Adrian Ayala in a 4-3 decision. After a feeling out first period, Brown scored the match's first point with an escape. A few seconds later, he notched a takedown to take a 3-0 lead. Ayala was able to tie the match at 3-3 with an escape and takedown as time was expiring. Brown won the match 4-3 because he received a point for riding time. Brown moves to 11-4 on the season.
Then in the 165-bout, Preston notched a decision win over Chris Morales. Morales started the match with a takedown, then Preston got the point for an escape. Preston would take a 3-2 lead in the second period as he notched a takedown. Then in the final period, Preston chose to start the period on the bottom. He would then notch an escape within the first 30 seconds of the period to take a 4-2 lead that held up for the remainder of the match. With this win, Preston moves to 7-4 on the year.
Cumberlands drops to 4-9 on the season and 1-1 in conference duals. UC will have eight days off from competitions before heading to Marshall, MO, for the Missouri Valley Invite. The two-day invite is set to start on January 20
th.
