Patriots Takedown Both Lourdes and Siena Heights in Tri-Dual

Sylvania, OH – The #8 UC women's wrestling team returned for Mid-South Conference action on Friday night. They took on both (RV) Lourdes and (RV) Siena Heights and came away with two victories. The Patriots defeated Lourdes 30-15 and then Siena Heights 30-18 to make them 2-1 in MSC duals.

UC had four wrestlers go undefeated on the night led by Ariana Pereira who won via a fall and a tech fall. Elizabeth Dosado recorded a fall along with a forfeit victory while both Angelina Castaneda and Jesse Kirby picked up both of their wins from forfeits.

CUMBERLANDS DEFEATS LOURDES, 30-15 (RESULTS)
The Pats started with a 10-0 lead after two forfeit wins. Lourdes won the next four matches to e up 15-11, but a forfeit win for Madyson Dow gave UC the slight edge at 16-15.

Cumberlands rattled off wins for the next three, started by Pereira at the 155 bout. Pereira dominated the match, not allowing her opponent to score. Pereira won 10-0 for the tech fall win in just 1:20 to extend the lead to 20-15.
Both Chamira Cooper and Kirby got forfeit wins for the 30-15 UC victory.
 
CUMBERLANDS DEFEATS SIENA HEIGHTS, 30-18 (RESULTS)
Castaneda got the forfeit win in the 101-bout for the early 5-0 UC lead. 5th ranked Dosado (101-weight class) went out to face 13th ranked Valeria Ahumada for the 109-matchup. Dosado dominated the match and finished Ahumada off in under 90 seconds with a fall at 1:27.

With the 10-0 lead Ashley Courtney took to the mats for the 116-match. She was absolutely cominate and spent even less time on the mats. Courtney was able to pin her opponent at 31 seconds for one of the fastest pins of her career.
Ivy Partin followed it up with a forfeit win to make the score 20-0. But then the Saints picked up three straight fall wins to pull the score within five at 20-15.

It was once again Pereira making a statement for the Patriots at the 155 bout. She was able to edge her opponent for the fall win at 5:08 to put the score out of reach for Siena going into the final two matches.
The Saints won the 170 match via a decision and Kirby took the last match off a forfeit to seal the UC win at 30-18.

Cumberlands will have a week off before they have their first home MSC duals. The team will host both Indiana Tech and Montreat on Friday, January 20. The first dual will start at 7PM ET with the remaining two duals to follow.
