Pikeville, KY- The 16
th ranked Patriots picked up two MSC conference dual wins tonight. The first was a 39-9 win over Rio Grande. Then against Pikeville, UC got the 42-9 victory to end the day 2-0.
Rio Grande
In this dual, UC won five duals by fall along with three decision wins. In the 125 bout,
Jeremiah Baird notched the first of five falls. Baird was able to get the fall in only 32 seconds. Then in the 133 match,
Trenton Pagaduan picked up a fall win in 3:57. Pagaduan notched two takedowns and two four-point near falls in the opening period before ending the match with a fall early in the second period. The next Patriot fall would come in the 149 match, where
Jace Luchau was able to get a takedown and fall in 1:28. Then in the 174 bout,
TJ Huber came away with a fall in 2:14. The final fall of this dual came in the 197 bout, when
Thomas Ketchen-Carter ended the match in only 24 seconds.
UC also notch three decision wins, starting with
Eli Peyton in the 141 match. Peyton picked up a takedown and penalty point in the opening period, followed by another penalty point in the second period, to take a 4-1 lead into the final period. In the final period, Peyton would then get two escapes, two takedowns, and a riding time point to secure an 11-6 victory. In the 157 matchup,
James Dosado notched a 2-0 decision win. Dosado was able to get an escape in the second period, and a riding time point for the 2-0 win. The last win of the dual came in the 184 bout, where
Harold Gilmore picked up an 8-1 decision win. Gilmore open the match with a takedown. Then in the second period, he got a penalty point. In the final period, Gilmore came away with an escape, followed by a takedown, before getting a point for ride time.
Pikeville
In this dual, UC won their first five matches by forfeits to take control of dual. From there Ketchen-Carter notched his second fall of the night in the 184 bout. He got the job done in 38 seconds. In the 197 bout Gilmore notched a fall as well. Before getting the fall, Gilmore was able to get a four point near fall. That win secured the Pats second victory on the day.
Cumberlands moves to 6-9 on the season and 3-1 in conference duals. UC will be back on the road on Friday January 27, to take on Campbellsville at 7 pm.
