Patriots Dropped A Close Match To 15th Ranked Cumberland

The 20th-ranked Patriots notched two falls but dropped a close dual to 15th-ranked Cumberland 24-18. Jace Luchau and Thomas Ketchen-Carter both notched falls.

The dual started at the 149 match, with Luchau taking Ramiro Mosquera. Luchau opened the match with a takedown followed by a two-point near fall.  Mosquera notched an escape before the period ended. In the second period,  Luchau chose the bottom and picked up an escape in four seconds. Then he notched a takedown that led to a fall in 3:40. Luchau is now 12-0 on the year.

The Patriots' next win in the 184 match, was when Ketchen-Carter took on 21st-ranked Austin Antcliffe. Ketchen-Carter got off to a fast start with a takedown.  Antcliffe notched a reversal, then Ketchen-Carter got an escape before time expired. In the next period,  Ketchen-Carter would get a fall in 4:26. Ketchen-Carter advances to 3-1 on the year.

Then in the 197 match, 23rd-ranked Harold Gilmore took on JT Oldknow. Oldknow scored the first points with a takedown, and Gilmore was able to get the reversal to tie the match at 2-2.  Oldknow picked up an escape before time expired. Gilmore got a penalty point in the second period to tie the match at 3-3. Both wrestlers scored two points in the third period, forcing the bout into overtime. Gilmore would notch a takedown in the overtime period for the 7-5 sudden victory win. Gilmore moves to 11-7 for the season.

21st-ranked Chasen Brown picked up the final win of the dual in the 141 match when he took on Jared Dinh. Brown scored the only points in the opening period with a takedown. In the second period, Brown notched another escape to take a 4-1 lead into the final period. Brown chose bottom and notched another escape for the 5-1 decision win. Brown now has a record of 12-4 this season.
 
Cumberlands drop to 7-10 on the season and 4-2 in conference duals. UC will return to the match next Monday, on February 6th to take on Thomas More in their final dual of the season.
