th ranked Patriots men's wrestling team went 1-2 on the first day of the NWCA National Duals. They took down ninth-ranked Campbellsville 24-19 before falling to third-ranked Southeastern 25-16 and fifth-ranked Indiana Tech 25-14. 19th-ranked
Jace Luchau put on a show as he went 3-0 with two falls and a major decision win.

Campbellsville (PDF)
Seventh-ranked
Chandlar Akins got this dual started with a 17-0 major decision win. The match started with Akins getting a takedown and two four-point near falls. After a stalemate in the second period, Akins opened the third with an escape. Six seconds later, he would notch a takedown and get another four-point near fall. Then in the 141 match, 20th-ranked
Chasen Brown notched a 10-0 major decision win. In that match, Brown got two takedowns, a four-point near fall, and a two-point near fall, to give the Pats a 9-4 dual lead. Luchau added six points to the lead with a 2:25 fall in the 149 bout. Then in the 157 match,
Ty Lehman notched a 3-2 decision win. All three of his points came in the third period, where he notched an escape and a takedown. That gave the Pats an 18-4 lead. Two matches later,
TJ Huber got a 6-3 decision win in the 174 match over 14th-ranked Brice Parks. After getting taken down early in the first period, Huber notched an escape. Then in the second period, he notched another escape followed by a takedown to take a 4-2 lead. In the final period, Huber notched another takedown on his way to victory.
Tobias Garrison picked up the last dual win for the Patriots as he took down 25th-ranked Curtis Thomas in a 3-2 decision in the 174 match. Garrison got on the board first with a takedown in the opening period. Thomas tied the match as they went into the final period. In that last period, Garrison notched an escape that gave him the lead and the win. The Pats went on to win 24-19.

Indiana Tech (PDF)
The dual started with Akins taking down 22nd-ranked Braxton Vest in a 16-4 major decision. The match started with an Akins takedown followed by a four-point near fall a couple of minutes later. Akins notched a reversal in the second period and another four-point near fall. Then in the final period, he got another takedown, plus a penalty point and a riding time point. Three matches later, Luchau got a 16-3 major decision win over 13th-ranked Nick Gates. Luchau controlled the match from the opening whistle; he notched a takedown in the first two seconds, followed by a two-point near fall. Then in the second period, he got an escape, takedown, and a four-point near fall. In the final period, he got two takedowns and a point for riding time. In the 165 match,
Dylan Preston notched a 4-3 decision win. Preston's points came from a takedown, an escape, and a penalty point. Then in the 174 bout, Charlie Friedenreich got a 6-2 decision win. With a 2-2 tie going into the third period, Friedenreich notched an escape followed by a takedown and a point for riding time.

This dual started with 10th-ranked
Austin Franco taking down third-ranked Isaac Crowell in a 4-3 decision. Franco notched back-to-back takedowns to open the bout. Which turned out to be his only points as he defended against all of Crowell shots. In the 149 match, Luchau notched a fall in 35 seconds to get his third win of the day. Then in 165, 12th-ranked
O'Brian Black won in a 6-3 decision. In that match, his points came from two takedowns, an escape, and a riding time point. Two matches later, Garrison notched a 12-4 major decision win. He notched a takedown in the opening period; then, in the second period, he got two takedowns and a two-point near fall. Then in the final period, he got a reversal and a takedown to get the win.
Cumberlands moved to 3-7 on the season but will be back on the mat tomorrow at the NAIA/ NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals in Louisville, KY.
