Results
Columbia, KY – The UC swimming team achieved 14 NAIA provisional cuts and nine race wins to defeat conference rival Lindsey Wilson 154.5-106.5 Saturday afternoon. The win is the Patriots second straight win on the season.
Alicja Sedlak and
Ashley Schoenlein both tallied a pair of individual wins on the day, while UC had five swimmers earn multiple national cuts at the meet.
Cumberlands opened the meet with
Romina Itzkovich Sacco, Sedlak,
Valentina Zapata Ceballos, and
Anastasiia Shatalova teaming up to win the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:01.03.
Sedlak posted a pair of individual wins and national cuts. The freshman pulled away from the field to win the 200 fly with a time of 2:17.82 for her first cut of the day. Sedlak followed that up by clocking a 4:46.50 in the 400 IM to be the top finisher. Teammate
Isabella Cooksey also clipped the provisional cut with a time of 4:56.85.
Schoenlein clocked an 11:21.27 to win the 1,000 free, before touching the wall in 2:31.91 to win the 200 breast and achieve a provisional cut.
Neyali Matos, Itzkovich Sacco, and Zapata Ceballos all notched multiple NAIA provisional cuts with an individual win on the day. Matos edged out Shatalova for first place in the 100 free as the duo went 55.22 and 55.65, respectively, to achieve national cuts. The Patriots newcomer also clocked a 25.51 in the 50 free.
Itzkovich Sacco and
Michelle Weiss record a one-two finish in the 200 free. Itzkovich Sacco touched the wall in 2:01.06 for first place, while Weiss clocked a 2:02.28 for her first national cut. Itzkovich Sacco also posted a 2:11.55 for a runner-up finish in the 200 back.
Zapata Ceballos took top honors in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 57.71. The sophomore earned her second national cut in the 100 back, where she touched the wall at 59.94. Freshman
Madeline Barbee tallied a pair of national cuts in backstroke going 1:02.44 for the 100 back and 2:15.00 in the 200 back.
Cumberlands closed out the meet with
Celin Ullern, Matos, Shatalova, and Zapata Ceballos teaming up to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.49.
The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, October 28, when they travel north to face Indiana Wesleyan in Marian, IN. The meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
