Bowling Green, KY – The tenth-ranked UC men's tennis team emerged victorious in the finals of the MSC Fall Invite, earning a hard-fought 4-3 win over (RV) Campbellsville on Saturday.
Killian Surmont and
Quentin Villetorte started doubles play strong, blanking Sebastian Toledo and Nahuel Hernando 6-0 at #2 doubles.
Billy Chiang Chia Chun and
Juanchi Alcon followed that up with a dominant 6-1 win over Maximiliano Roman and Rikuto Towata at #3 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Pats.
In singles play,
Lucas Augotr started things off for UC with a solid 6-3, 6-0 win over Roman at #5 singles. Villetorte followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sebastian Toledo at #3 singles, which put the Patriots up 3-0.
After dropping the next match, Surmont earned a tough three-set victory to earn the fourth point and clinch the championship for UC. The sophomore dropped the first set, but bounced in the final two sets to defeat Nicholas Andrade 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 at #2 singles.
The Pats picked up their second MSC Fall Invite title in three years, after last winning in 2021.
Regular-season play will continue in the spring for the Pats.
