13 Wins Highlights UC’s Men’s Swimming & Diving Home Opener Victory

The Cumberlands men's swimming & diving team tallied 13 wins and 11 NAIA provisional cuts in their 196-102 win over Centre Friday night at the Patriots Aquatic Center.  With the win, Cumberlands improves to 4-0 on the season.

UC opened the meet with Mateus Cruz, Dorian Bachlaj, Agustin Rasche, and Malo Baudard-Guillot teaming up to win the 200 medley relay.  The quartet of swimmer clocked a winning time of 1:34.10.

The Patriots had nine swimmers post wins on the day led by Mikolaj Kala and Jokubas Jankauskas, who finished with a pair of wins each.  Kala took top honors in the 100 breast with a time of 59.29 before going 2:10.21 to win the 200 breast.  Both of those times are NAIA provisional cuts.

Jankauskas continues his strong start to the season as he clocked a 1:55.16 in the 200 back. That time is the eighth fastest time in the NAIA this year.  The sophomore edged out teammate Andres Caicedo by 0.01 to win the 200 free as the duo clocked times of 1:47.40 and 1:47.41, respectively. Satti earned a win in the 100 fly as he touched the wall in 51.57.  All three of those times are NAIA provisional cuts.

Mateus Lopes Cruz posted a winning time of 51.71 in the 100 back, while Marcelo Rojas clocked a 1:59.92 in the 200 fly to win the event with times that clipped the national cut.

The Patriots took first place in all five freestyle events with a different swimmer winning each race.  Joan Cortadellas Llubera earned the win the 50 free (22.12), Jose Arzayus won the 500 free (4:57.86), while Will Gilbert clocked a 10:19.15 to win the 1,000 free.  In the 100 free, Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira led a trio of Pats to NAIA provisional cuts as he posted a winning time of 47.35.  Cruz and Lucas Thomaz were right behind at 47.65 and 48.38, respectively.

Leon Irmer notched the final individual win of the meet going 2:00.67 to win the 200 IM.

UC will return to pool Saturday, November 18, when they host Shawnee State.  The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m. with live video available here.
