Patriots Season Comes to a Close in the Second Round of the NAIA Tournament

Mobile, AL – After a rain delay shifted the match to Thursday morning, the 11th-seed UC men's tennis team battled throughout the morning but it wasn't enough as they fell to sixth-seed Northwestern Ohio 4-0 in the second round of the NAIA Tournament.  Cumberlands finish the season with a 22-4 record and made program history capturing both the MSC regular season and tournament titles in the same year for the first time.

The Racers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after notching wins at #1 and #2 doubles.  UNOH tallied a 6-1 win at #2 doubles, before securing the 6-2 win at #1 doubles to take the lead.  At #3 doubles Billy Chiang Chia Chung and Christian de la Fuente Nodado were trailing 5-3 when the match was halted.

In singles play, the Patriots won some games early however UNOH pulled away for the 4-0 win.  The Racers extended their lead with a straight set win at #2 singles.  At #1 singles, Mattis Le Montagner traded points with Sergio Conde in the first set, before ultimately dropping the set 6-4, 6-2 as UNOH took the 3-0 lead.  The Racers clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win at #4 singles.

De la Fuente Nodado dropped the first set at #3 singles, however rallied to lead 6-5 in the second when play was halted. 

Cumberlands tallied a 13-match win streak before falling in today's match.  UC also had five MSC All-Conference selections this year.
