Fort Wayne, IN – UC traveled to compete in the Warrior Duals, sweeping through their competition to post an overall record of 4-0 with 10 undefeated wrestlers.
Among the 10 UC wrestlers to go undefeated is #5 Elizabeth Dosado (4-0), #6 MaQuoia Bernabe (4-0), #6 Micah Fisher (4-0), #19 Ariana Pereira (4-0), Jaine Stephens (3-0), #6 Presley Anderson (2-0), #14 Kaitlin Castro (2-0), #11 Chamira Cooper (2-0), Ashley Courtney (2-0), and Allyson Arrington (1-0).
#7 CUMBERLANDS SWEEPS PAST #13 INDIANA TECH, 38-6
UC marked three falls, three decisions, and two tech falls in a 38-6 victory over the #13 Warriors. #5 Dosado sparked the match for the Pats with a 6-3 decision in the 101-bout over #7 Makayla Young. Dosado took an early lead over her opponent with a pushout and a two-point takedown in the first period. In the second period, she tallied another two-point takedown and a pushout to secure the victory. The Warriors tied the team score at 4-4 after the 109-weight class, but #6 Anderson continued her hot streak with a 10-0 tech fall with two, four-point takedowns and a two-point takedown.
In the 123-bout, #14 Castro marked a fall in 2:36 to raise the team score to 13-4 in favor of UC. The Patriots continue to rally with an 11-6 decision from Arrington in the 130-weight class. Arrington sparked the match with a pushout and a two-point takedown, ending the first period with a 3-1 advantage. Back-to-back four-point takedowns in the second period raised the team score to 16-5 in favor of the Pats. In the 136-bout, Migdalys Ramos notched a 10-0 tech fall with three, two-point takedowns in the first period followed by consecutive two-point takedowns in the second period.
The Patriots continued to rally together with a fall in 1:52 from #6 Fisher over #16 Maia Crumb in the 143-weight class. In the 155-bout, #19 Pereira tallied a fall in 2:09, making the team score 30-5 in UC's favor. #11 Cooper worked vigorously for a 3-1 decision over #15 Grace Doering in the 170-weight class. Cooper sparked the first period by pushing her opponent out of bounds, but little action occurred the rest of the first period. In the second period, a two-point takedown sealed the deal and raised the team score to 33-6 in favor of UC. #6 Bernabe capped off the dual with a forfeit to finalize the team score at 38-6.
#7 CUMBERLANDS DOMINATES (RV) SIENA HEIGHTS, 40-8
The Pats tallied six falls and a tech fall against the Saints to record a 40-8 victory. UC went straight to work with falls in the 109, 116, and 123-weight classes. In the 109-bout, #11 Gracie Elliott recorded a fall in 1:02 over #16 Valeria Ahumada followed by Courtney with a fall in 1:14 in the 116-bout. In the 123-bout, Stephens marked a fall in 1:49 to raise the team score to 20-0 in favor of UC. In the 136-weight class, Ramos notched a fall in 0:58 to elevate the team score to 26-3, UC.
Cumberlands continued to propel forward with an 11-0 tech fall from #6 Fisher in the 143-bout. In the 155-weight class, #19 Pereira recorded a fall in 3:27 to make the team score 35-3, UC. #6 Bernabe wrapped the dual up with a fall in 2:10 to finalize the team score at 40-8.
#7 CUMBERLANDS CAPTURES VICTORY OVER (RV) LOURDES, 40-6
The Pats recorded one fall, one tech fall, and two decisions in a 40-6 victory over the Gray Wolves. #5 Dosado initiated the Patriots momentum with a fall in 1:02 for an early lead. Back-to-back forfeits in the 109 and 116-bout raised the team score to 15-0 in favor of UC. Cumberlands #14 Castro tallied a 10-0 tech fall after a late jump but ended up marking two, five point-takedowns. In the 130-weight class, Stephens recorded a 12-9 decision after tallying a trio of two-point takedowns to end the first period with a 6-4 advantage. Stephens recorded back-to-back two-point takedowns paired with a two-point takedown to secure the victory.
A trio of forfeits in the 143, 155, and 170-bouts elevated the team score to 37-6 in favor of the Patriots. #6 Bernabe secured the dual with a 4-0 decision over her opponent. Bernabe pushed her opponent out of the ring in the first period, giving her a 1-0 advantage. In the second period, she marked a two-point takedown and managed to push her opponent out of the ring again, finalizing the team score at 40-6 in favor of UC.
#7 CUMBERLANDS KNOCKS DOWN ROCHESTER, 48-2
The Pats notched two falls and two tech falls against the Warriors to record a 48-2 victory. In the 101, 109, and 116-bouts, UC recorded forfeits to start the match with a team score advantage of 15-0. In the 123-weight class, Stephens notched a 12-2 tech fall by recording a four-point takedown, and consecutive two-point takedowns for an 8-2 advantage at the end of the first period. In the second period, Stephens marked a pair of two-point takedowns to secure the match. Zoey Smith followed with a 12-2 tech fall in the 130-bout, recording a trio of two-point takedowns for a 6-0 lead heading into the second period. Smith handled business with another trio of two-point takedowns to make the team score23-2, in favor of UC.
In the 143-weight class, #6 Fisher notched a fall in 1:11 followed by #19 Pereira with a fall in 2:24 in the 155-weight class. Back-to-back forfeits in the 170 and 191-bouts concluded the day for UC, finalizing the team score at 48-2.
UC will return to the mats tomorrow, Saturday, January 26th for the Warrior Women's Open in Fort Wayne, IN. The Open is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST).
