Williamsburg, KY – The #7 Patriots fell just short in a hard-fought battle against the #2 Running Eagles of Life to move to 4-1 in conference play. UC recorded a team score of 16-29, tallying two falls and a decision.
Cumberlands recorded five points in the first match of the evening at 101. #5 Elizabeth Dosado recorded a fall over #10 Devyn Gomez at 0:36 for a 5-0 team advantage.
In the 109-bout, #11 Gracie Elliott collected one point by pushing her opponent, #4 Diana Gonzalez, off the mat. Her opponent marked a two-point takedown, ending the first period 1-2. Life took the match, making the team score 6-3 in favor of UC.
#6 Presley Anderson faced off against #9 Ariana Martinez in the 116-weight class. In the first period, Anderson recorded a four-point take down followed by consecutive two-point takedowns for an 8-0 advantage at the end of the first period. In the second period, her opponent marked a two-point takedown along with a four-point takedown and collected one-point. Anderson retaliated with a four-point takedown of her own to secure a 10-8 decision victory.
In the 123 and 130-bouts, Life tallied a pair of tech falls over UC to make the team score 10-12 in favor of the Running Eagles. In the 136-weight class, Migdalys Ramos faced off against #19 Angie Prado. In the first period, Ramos held her own and kept her opponent to two points, making the score 0-2 going into the second period but ultimately fell short.
In the 143-weight class, #6 Micah Fisher faced off against #5 Zaynah McBryde who was wrestling up a weight class. Fisher fell behind early as her opponent marked a pair of two-point takedowns along with a four-point takedown. Fisher recorded a two-point takedown at the end of the first period to make the score 2-8 going into the second period. With grit and determination, Fisher took down her opponent with a fall marked at 5:02 to elevate the team score to 15-17 in favor of UC.
In the 155 and 170-bouts, UC was unable to produce points as the Running Eagles recorded a fall and a tech fall to make the team score 15-26. In the final match of the evening, #6 MaQuoia Bernabe faced off against #7 Madeline Welch. In the first period, Bernabe recorded a two-point takedown along with pushing her opponent off the mat to mark a score of 3-0. In the second period, a trio of two-point takedowns left Bernabe to fall just short and finalize the team score at 16-29 in favor of UC.
UC will travel to Des Moines, IA and participate in the Grand View Open on Saturday, February 3rd, with match times to be announced.
