Cedar Falls, IA - The Patriots Men's Wrestling team finished 7
th overall at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, IA. On the second day of the duals, UC went 1-1 with #24
Weston Milnes, #22
Tobias Garrison, and
Charles Friedenreich garnering 2-0 records. The team went 3-2 over the course of both days and now has a 10-4 dual record.
Multiple Cumberlands' wrestlers went undefeated at the duals. Friedenreich went 3-0 and recorded an 11-3 major decision and two 4-1 decisions. #5
Bryce Nickel finished 2-0, notching a 16-5 major decision and 10-6 decision. Also going 2-0 was #7
Austin Franco with an 11-2 major decision and a 4-2 decision.
#7 Cumberlands Narrowly Falls to #6 Campbellsville, 20-21
In a Mid-South Conference matchup, UC fell by just one point, 20-21, to the Tigers. The first win of the day was marked by
Chandlar Akins over Caleb Thomas (Campbellsville), with a 15-0 technical fall. The senior beat his opponent with a 3-point takedown and 4-point nearfall in both the first and second period in the 133-bout. #2
Jace Luchau notched an escape and a 3-point takedown to defeat #23 Nick Moore (Campbellsville) in a 4-1 decision in the 149-weight class. Tallying a fall at the 0:30 mark, #24
Weston Milnes wrestling in the 157-weight class, beat #16 Jake Hurst and collected six points for the Patriots.
Charles Friedenreich won over Kiernan Sherwood (Campbellsville) with a 3-point takedown and riding time in the third period, resulting in a 4-1 decision. In the 197-bout, #22
Tobias Garrison took his match over #14 Chandler Woenker in a 7-5 decision and scored the last three points for UC. The senior recorded all his points in the final period with a 3-point takedown and a 4-point nearfall.
#7 Cumberlands Took Revenge on #11 Indiana Tech, 26-13
UC had a rematch against the Warriors and took the win this go around, 26-13. 125 wrestler #16
Adonis Boyd opened the dual by recording a fall at 1:18 over #18 Allen Calderon (Indiana Tech). Sophomore
Trenton Pagaduan defeated Steven Garty (Indiana Tech) in an 8-0 major decision, marking two 3-point takedowns and riding time for the 133-bout.
Gage Hudson secured six points by a forfeit win. In the 157-weight class, the #24 Milnes earned a 15-10 decision over Elijah Chacon (Indiana Tech), notching two 3-point takedowns and two 1-point penalties in the first period, followed by stalling and reversals in the second and third periods. Tallying three 3-point takedowns, an escape, and riding time, Friedenreich beat Griffin Bekish (Indiana Tech) in the 174-weight class in a 11-3 major decision. #22 Garrison scored the final points for the Patriots and won in a narrow 3-2 decision with a 3-point takedown in the second period, for the 184-bout over #23 Trevor Stuyvenberg (Indiana Tech).
UC Men's Wrestling will host their first Mid-South dual on Friday January 12. The dual will begin at 7 p.m. in the UC Volleyball Gym.
