UC Men’s Swim & Dive Closes Out Opening Weekend with Win over Lindsey Wilson

The Cumberlands men's swimming & diving team tallied 12 wins and achieved 16 NAIA Provisional cuts as they defeated Lindsey Wilson 181-90 Saturday afternoon at the UC Aquatic Center.  UC improves to 2-0 on the season and has multiple swimmers ranked in the top-ten of the NAIA in their respective events.

Cumberlands opened the meet with the quartet of Mateus Lopes Cruz, Leon Irmer, Arvid Kvorning, and Agustin Rasche touching the wall in 1:33.40 to win the 200 medley relay.

Mateus Cruz and Marcelo Rojas each recorded a pair of wins on the afternoon.  Cruz touched the wall in 47.35 to win the 100 free, before clocking a 51.13 in the 100 back.  His 100 back time ranks second in the NAIA this season.  Ruthiik Satti finished runner-up in the 100 back with a provisional cut time of 51.58.

Rojas led a trio of Patriots in the 200 fly as he touched the wall in 1:55.97, which is the fifth fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Zsombr Bene and Juan Ramirez Zapata tied for second as they each clocked a 1:57.15.   Rojas closed out the meet winning the 200 IM, posting the sixth fastest time in the NAIA as he went 1:57.99.

Rasche notched a pair of provisional cuts, including winning the 50 free with a time of 21.42.  The sophomore also went 48.41 in the 100 free. 

UC took top honors in both breaststrokes as Leon Irmer won the 100 breast clocking a 57.69, before finishing runner-up in the 200 breast (2:15.21).  Nikita Konovets touched the wall in 2:10.82 to win the 200 breast.

Cumberlands had a pair of provisional cuts in the 100 fly as Juan Ramirez Zapata edged out Arvid Kvorning 52.20 to 52.82 for the win.  In the 200 back it was Jan Lucow, who pulled away from the field and posted a winning time of 1:55.14. 

Making his Patriot debut, Gavin Hickman tallied a 175.95 to win the one-meter diving competition.

In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, Satti, Cruz, Kvorning, and Rasche teamed up clock a winning time of 3:10.83. 

UC returns to the pool on Saturday, November 2, when they host Asbury.  The meet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
