Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots women's swimming & diving team earned eight wins and defeated Union Commonwealth University 153-65 Friday night at the UC Aquatic Center. This meets served as UC season-opener as the Pats achieved nine NAIA provisional cuts.
The Patriots opened the meet as
Victoria Niska,
Megan Schoenlein,
Sarah Zoellner, and
Moa Nyblom competing in the 400 medley relay. The quartet touched the wall in 4:04.66 to win the race.
Juliana Lopez Morales and
Ugne Takuseviciute both posted multiple individual wins on the night. Lopez Morales pulled away from the field to win the 1,000 free touching the wall in 10:47.27, before winning the 500 free with a time of 5:16.73.
Michelle Weiss also hit the provisional cut he 500 free as she went 5:21.45.
Takuseviciute won both the 100 free and the 200 free. The freshman finished with a time of 55.93 in the 100 free and clocked a 2:01.02 in the 200 free.
Freshman
Moa Nyblom touched the wall in 1:08.71 to win the 100 breast and clip the provisional cut by three seconds. Transfer Sara Zoellner won the 100 fly (59.40), while
Filippa Malmstrom finished runner-up (1:01.48).
Ashley Schoenlein edged out
Alicja Sedlak for the win the 200 IM as the swimmers went 2:13.91 and 2:14.25, respectively. UC's final provisional cut came in the 100 back where
Addison Ringwald clocked a 1:01.69.
In the final event of the night, the 200 free relay, Zoellner,
Megan Schoenlein, Takuseviciute, and Niska teamed up to clock a winning time of 1:41.69.
UC returns to the pool on Saturday, October 19, when they host Lindsey Wilson. The meet is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
