Williamsburg, KY - The #22 Cumberlands men's tennis team did not drop a game in singles or doubles play, leading to a dominant 7-0 win over (RV) Lewis-Clark State. The win also marked the eighth victory in a row for the Patriots.
UC opened the day sweeping doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.
Billy Chiang Chia Chun and
Killian Surmont captured a 6-1 win over Nell Rollin and Austin Swing at #2 doubles. Identical 6-2 wins came at the #1 and #3 spots as
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu defeated Itaru Kikuchi and Alvaro Camino, while
Liam Savio and
Gabriele Solda defeated Daniel Tevez and Rafael Bonnet.
Muller continued his successful day with a dominant win in singles to give the Pats a 2-0 advantage. The senior took down Itaru Kikuchi 6-0, 6-4 at the #1 spot.
Surmont followed that up with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rafael Bonnet at the #2 spot to give UC a 3-0 lead.
Savio secured the win for the Pats with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Austin Swing at the #3 spot.
The Patriots continued to dominate, taking the final three matches to preserve the shutout.
Pierluigi Cruypenninck earned a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Nell Rollin at #5 singles, while
Lucas Augotr defeated Gustavo Santos 6-1, 6-1 at the #6 spot.
Hung Ju Wu closed the day with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Nell Rollin at the #4 spot to cement the 7-0 victory for the Pats.
The Patriots return to action on April 6th, as UC hosts #12 Cumberland at the UC Tennis Complex.
