Bowling Green, KY – The third-seeded Cumberlands women's tennis team opened action in the MSC Tournament with a strong 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Georgetown on Thursday. UC moves on to face #2 seed Bethel in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
The Pats opened the day taking the first two doubles matches to capture the early 1-0 advantage.
Marina Nagai and
Blanca Lopez secured the first doubles win, blanking Anna White and Emma Hill 6-0 at the #3 spot.
Jirachavala Puckaporn and
Liu YuFang secured the point with a 6-4 win over Lydia Prince and Madelyn Gill at #2 doubles.
Nagai continued her successful day with a solid singles win in straight sets. The sophomore defeated Samantha Spady 6-1, 6-0 at the #2 spot to put the Pats up 2-0.
Lopez followed that up with an identical 6-1, 6-0 win at the #5 spot. Lopez's victory came over Lydia Prince to extend the UC lead to 3-0.
YuFang secured the win for the Patriots with another dominant singles win for UC. The freshman defeated Emma Hill 6-1, 6-1 at the #3 spot, sealing the 4-0 victory.
Cumberlands and Bethel face off in the MSC Semifinals on Friday at 1:00 p.m. EST.
