Bowling Green, KY – The #12/#1 seed Cumberlands men's tennis team fell to #15/#3 seed Cumberland in the Mid-South Conference Championship at the Warren County Tennis Sports Facility on Saturday.
The Phoenix opened the day strong, taking two of the three doubles matches to gain the early 1-0 advantage.
Martin Muller and
Hung Ju Wu won the lone doubles match for the Pats, defeating Daniel Wessels and German Suarez at the #2 spot.
Billy Chiang Chia Chun and
Killian Surmont battled as they competed in the #1 spot for the first time this season, but ultimately fell 7-6.
The Pheonix extended the lead to 2-0 after taking the first singles match at the #5 spot.
Muller put Cumberlands on the board, as the senior emerged victorious in his singles match. The Austria native defeated Vitor Ferreira 7-5, 6-4 at the #1 spot to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Phoenix captured the next two singles matches in straight sets to seal the 4-1 victory for Cumberland.
The Patriots now sit at 17-5 on the season and look to continue the season at the NAIA National Tournament in May.
