Cedar Falls, IA – The No. 3 Patriots Women's Wrestling team competed in the first day of the NWCA National Duals where they faced three different opponents. The squad went 2-1 on the day to advance them to the second day of duals.
#3 CUMBERLANDS BREEZES PAST #12 BAKER, 29-14
The UC Patriots opened their first dual of the day with a 10-0 tech fall from Dutchess King and Katie Gomez in their respective weight classes. Mary Jane Porter (131 bout) and Annabelle Suto (138 bout) both collected 10-0 tech falls over their opponents.
In the 145-weight class, Alivia Ming recorded a 16-5 tech fall while Micah Fisher marked a fall in 1:43 over her opponent in the 160-weight class. Rounding out for UC, Karla Padilla-Zepeda notched an 8-1 decision.
The Wildcats were seen marking points in the 110, 117, and 180 bouts but were still stumped by the Pats, 29-14.
#3 CUMBERLANDS DROPS CONTEST TO #7 SOUTHERN OREGON, 26-17
In their second dual of the day, UC went head-to-head with Southern Oregon University. The Pats opened the dual with a 14-0 tech fall from Dutchess King in the 103-weight class.
In the 124 bout, Katie Gomez recorded a 10-0 tech fall followed by Mary Jane Porter with a 9-1 decision in the 131 bout. Alivia Ming (145 bout) notched the fall in 5:43 to round out the Patriots points in the dual.
The Raiders marked points in six different weight classes to see the Patriots fall behind, 26-17.
#3 CUMBERLANDS DOMINATES #14 TEXAS WESLEYAN, 36-12
In their final dual on the first day of the NWCA National Duals, Cumberlands faced Texas Wesleyan. UC recorded 20 points on four forfeits in the 103, 110, 117, and 131 weight classes.
In the 124 bout, Presley Anderson notched a 9-2 decision over her opponent to increase the Patriots lead. Alivia Ming (145 bout) followed with a 15-4 tech fall over her opponent.
Micah Fisher notched a fall in 1:44 in the 160-weight class rounded out by MaQuoia Bernabe in the 207-weight class with a 12-2 tech fall.
The Rams recorded points in the 136 and 180 bout but was not enough as the Patriots dominated, 36-12.
UC will return to the mats tomorrow Saturday, January 11, for day two of the NWCA National Duals. The Patriots will face #8 Indiana Tech at 11:30 a.m. (EST) in Cedar Falls, IA.
