No. 3 UC Women's Wrestling Collects Fifth Place Finish at NWCA National Duals

Cedar Falls, IA – The No. 3 Patriots Women's Wrestling team collected a fifth-place finish after posting a 4-1 record at the NWCA National Duals. UC was seen besting #8 Indiana Tech and #9 Campbellsville University on day two of the duals.

#3 CUMBERLANDS DOMINATES #8 INDIANA TECH, 34-10
The UC Patriots opened their first dual of the day with an 8-0 decision from Dutchess King in the 103-weight class. Shammilka Miranda carried the moment in the 117 bout with a 10-0 tech fall over her opponent to hold strong to the Patriots lead.

Katie Gomez (124 bout) followed suit with a 14-2 tech fall followed by Presley Anderson (131 bout) who notched a fall in 0:36 over her opponent. Mary Jane Porter and Alivia Ming continued UC's success with 10-0 tech falls over their opponents in their respective weight classes.

Rounding out for the Pats, Micah Fisher notched a 13-2 tech fall in the 160-bout closed out by Saiheron Preciado-Meza with the fall in 1:33 over her opponent.

Indiana Tech was seen notching points in the 110 and 207 bouts but were no match for the Patriots (34-10).
 
#3 CUMBERLANDS STUMPS #9 CAMPBELLSVILLE, 31-16
In their second and final dual of the day, the Patriots went head-to-head with conference foe Campbellsville University. UC opened the dual for fifth place with a 15-4 tech fall from Dutchess King in the 103-weight class. Ryleigh Hayes carried the success into the 110 bout with a hard-fought, 5-4 decision over her opponent.

Back-to-back falls came from Shammilka Miranda (117 bout) and Presley Anderson (131 bout), seeing Miranda mark her fall in 5:26 while Anderson's was in 1:27. With a strong lead, Cumberlands' Katie Gomez 6-2 decision in the 131-weight class continued the momentum.

In the 160-weight class, Micah Fisher closed it out for the Pats by notching a fall in 2:11 rounded out by Destiny Marquez recording a forfeit.

The Tigers were seen notching points in the 138, 145, and 180 bouts but were not stopped by a strong Patriots' squad (31-16).

UC will remain on the road for the Tornado Open in Bristol, TN on Sunday, January 19.
