Williamsburg, KY – Playing a pivotal role in the cross country team capture the Mid-South Conference Championship, runners Lea Kunstmann and Ishak Mekideche have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
 
Lea Kunstmann earned athlete of the week honors after an incredible performance at the MSC Championship.  The freshman pulled away from the field and clocked a winning time of 22:23.59 over the 6k course.  Kunstmann earned the win by almost 30 seconds to capture Mid-South Conference Runner of the Year and MSC Freshman of the Year honors.  Her performance also helped the Patriots capture their sixth straight conference title.
 
Ishak Mekideche earned athlete of the week honors after a terrific performance at the MSC Championship.  The freshman was part of the leading pack that ran a smart race over the 8k course.  Mekideche became the first to cross the finish line clocking a 25:36.18 to capture Medalist honors. That performance earned Mekideche MSC Runner of the Year and MSC Freshman of the Year honors.  He was part of Cumberlands' strong performance that had the top six finishers and seven of the top-eight runners.
