Campbellsville, KY – To open the dual season, the #6 Patriots Women's Wrestling program set out on the road and earned a 32-15 win over #20 Campbellsville. UC starts their conference campaign 1-0 in the Mid-South Conference.
Fourth-ranked Saiheron Preciado-Meza set the tone early for the Patriots in the 180-weight class against Mariah Gardner. The junior notched three two-point takedowns before recording the fall in 1:23 to give UC a 5-0 lead.
#17 Destiny Marquez followed in the 207-weight class, earning a 13-4 decision over Desi Lee and increasing the lead to 8-1. Both opponents marked strong takedowns in the first period, but Marquez ultimately came out on top with four two-point takedowns in the second period to secure the win.
Cumberlands then built the lead to 23-1 off forfeits in the 103, 110, and 117 weight classes.
Campbellsville then bounced back with two falls to bring the score to 23-11. #5 Angelina Casteneda fell by fall in 2:56, while Amaria Ridgner fell by fall in 1:39.
In the 138-weight class, #17 Mary Jane Porter faced off with Rita Carey. Porter marked a 13-2 tech fall victory after battling hard for a 9-2 advantage in the first period with a four-point takedown, before finishing the job with two two-point takedowns in the second period, bringing the score to 27-12.
In the 145-weight class, Ruth Jiminez fell short in a 5-0 decision to Olivia Messerly, closing the gap to 27-15.
#8 Genesis Gilmore faced off against Kylee Tait in the 145-weight class, marking a four-point takedown and recording the fall in 1:00 To finish off the night and clinch the dual with the 32-15 final.
UC will return to the mats next weekend, November 21-22, for the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.
