#5 Patriots Have Multiple Strong Performances in Double Dual

Williamsburg, KY – The fifth-ranked UC women's wrestling team took the mat in their final tune-up ahead of the Mid-South Conference Championships and honored their 2025 senior class Friday night in the UC Volleyball Gym.  The Patriots tallied nine wins, including four falls across the two duals as they faced #7 Indiana Tech and #9 Lindsey Wilson.

UC Falls to Indiana Tech 27-18

The match begin with a top-ten matchup at the 103 lbs. weight class as #10 Angelina Casteneda earned the 4-3 decision over #8 Makayla Young.  Casteneda notched a two point take-down early and utilized a late two-point takedown in the closing seconds for the 4-3 decision giving UC a 3-1 lead.

A forfeit at 110 put the Warriors in front 6-1, however, UC responded as tenth-ranked Shammika Miranda earned a 10-0 tech fall over Riley Horvath to put the Patriots back in front.  Miranda utilized a pair of takedowns and earned the tech fall at the 1:34 mark in the first period.

The Warriors took the next two matches to extend their lead to 14-8.  The Pats battled back at 138 as they sent Oriyana Castex to the mat.  Castex took the early lead on a pushout, before turning a four-point takedown into an immediate fall over Carley Anderson at the 2:50 mark to bring UC within a point at 14-13.

In the next match, #13 Alivia Ming jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Brooklyn Figueroa.  Figueroa responded with a four-point takedown and looked for a fall, however, Ming was able to reserve Figueroa and earn a pin at the 1:53 mark giving Cumberlands the 18-14 lead. 

Indiana Tech won the final three matches for the 27-18 final.

UC Falls to Lindsey Wilson 27-22

Dutchess King, the reigning NAIA wrestler of the Week, opened the match with a 12-2 tech fall over Alyssa Archer.  King utilized a pair of four-point suplexes to close out the match and give UC a 4-1 lead.

Lindsey Wilson won the next two matches as Presley Anderson faced Sydney Bridenstine.  Anderson utilized a four-point takedown to lead directly into a fall at the 1:23 mark cutting the deficit to 11-9.

At 131 lbs. tenth-ranked Annabella Suto rallied late to knock off Trinity Davis. With the matched tied 1-1 in the second period Davis earned a two-point takedown to earn the lead, however, Suto responded with consecutive two-point take downs for the 5-3 decision tying the team score at 12-12.

After the Blue Raiders earned a fall at 138, the Patriots responded with one of their own. Ming fell  behind Lexi Ritchie 4-0 in the early going, however, the freshman rallied with a two-point takedown that she turned directly into a pin at the 2:22 mark to even the score at 17-17.  UC's final win came at 207 where Karla Padilla earned the forfeit win for the 27-22 final.

Cumberlands returns to the mat on Friday, February 28th, when they travel to Bowling Green, KY to compete for the MSC Championships.
